Ruggie Takes Charge of FIFA's BHR Plan

Under the auspices of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Professor John Ruggie and his team at the nongovernmental organization Shift have accepted a request from the International Federation of Association Football ("FIFA") to develop a plan to "embed" Ruggie's UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights ("BHR") in the organization's activities.

NGOs Seek Asian "Action Plan" on Corporate Citizenship

The International Organization for Standardization ("ISO") has announced that, following the recent UN climate-change pact agreed in Paris, it will revise accordingly its standards on "measuring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions" for corporations and other organizations.

The Institute for Human Rights and Business has published a list of emerging issues in the field of business and human rights ("BHR") for the year 2016, including the provision of a judicial or other remedy for BHR violations, forcing businesses to become more transparent in their operations, and "climate justice" as some of the top priorities for countries and businesses.

The nongovernmental organization Restaurant Opportunities Centers United and two organizations at the University of California, Berkeley, have published a report alleging that exceptions in US federal and state minimum-wage laws for workers who receive tips are a violation of international human-rights obligations.
