The International Corporate Accountability Roundtable and a Guatemalan nongovernmental organization have announced their work toward a National Baseline Assessment of Guatemala's implementation of the global business and human rights agenda and their support of a "national action plan" on advancing BHR policies in the country.

HRW: World Bank Project Safeguards Are Insufficient

As activist groups place increasing pressure on businesses and development organizations to implement the UN's human rights agenda, Human Rights Watch has expressed disappointment with the World Bank's new framework of environmental and social safeguards in the projects it finances for not including a binding commitment to respect human rights.

Japanese NCP Accepts Power Plant Complaint

Japan's National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises has accepted a complaint supported by activist organizations Greenpeace Indonesia and Friends of the Earth Japan calling, in part, on an energy company to perform human rights and environmental "due diligence" prior to constructing a power plant in Indonesia.

Article Criticizes EU Conflict Minerals Agreement
