The UN Environment Programme has touted a recent joint statement from environment ministers of the Group of 7 countries (G7) after meeting in Bologna supporting the UN agency's agenda on channeling investments from the financial industry and small and medium enterprises into "sustainable finance" that supports projects combating climate change.

UN Agency Calls for Phaseout of "Single-Use Plastic"

Reuters reports that, in the wake of US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the US from the UN's Paris climate deal, technology giant Apple issued a $1 billion "green bond" that it says it will use to drive private investment toward funding renewable energy projects and increase energy efficiency at its facilities.

The Economist reports that entities ranging from nongovernmental organizations to credit-rating agencies are entering the rapidly expanding but uncertain business of determining what constitutes and does not constitute a "green bond" in which investments contribute effectively to the fulfillment of the UN's agenda on lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
