UN Forms Partnership for "Sustainability" in Agriculture

UN agencies, the International Finance Corporation, national governments, and nongovernmental organizations recently launched a "Good Growth Partnership" through which they will advocate for the diversion of investments into "sustainable" forms of agriculture and more transparency in global agricultural supply chains.

Canada Joins UN Anti-Plastic Campaign

The UN Environment Programme is celebrating Canada's decision to join the international organization's "CleanSeas" campaign, which includes "phasing out the production and consumption of single-use plastics and microbeads within the next five years" to protect the world's oceans from plastic waste.

EU Legislators Aim to Invalidate Emissions Permits in UK

Reuters reports that, with the increasing apprehension that the market for EU emissions permits will collapse upon the failure of Brexit negotiations between the UK and EU, Members of the European Parliament have proposed legislation divesting all UK companies of their transferable EU emissions permits upon the country's exit from the bloc.

"Green Bond" Standards Spring from Climate Agenda

Harald Lund and Elisabeth Lannoo of the Centre for International Climate Research describe the global efforts of international institutions, national governments, and nongovernmental organizations to set standards for "green bonds" to encourage investors, including those abiding by sharia finance rules, to divert their funds into climate-friendly projects.
