Credibility Alliance

The Credibility Alliance (CA) is an association of volunteer organization across India committed to improving accountability and transparency in the non profit sector through good governance.  CA likens itself to a professional body that sets norms and standards of governance for the community of non profit organizations in India, in an effort to improve the overall credibility of the industry.  CA operates on the principle of self-regulation in order to respect the autonomy of participatory organizations.  Its strategy involves creating a large membership base with participatory organizations helping to create suitable guidelines based on voluntary disclosure of information from participating members.  The alliance has also developed an accreditation system and peer group review model to strengthen the legitimacy of individual organizations in the sector.  CA also offers validation and endorsement to companies and organizations based on CA norms.

Founded in 2004, CA is directed by Vijay Nadkarni and its board is chaired by Mathew Cherian.  It is located in Mumbai and its work covers all regions of India. Credibility Alliance has worked with The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, UK based GuideStar, and has received funding from the Ford Foundation.
