Brookings Transparency and Accountability Project

The Brookings Transparency and Accountability Project (TAP) seeks to improve governance in developing countries by strengthening the mechanisms by which the public can hold governments accountable.  TAP’s goal is to improve the capacity of local civil society organizations so that they can effectively monitor and analyze the public expenditure process from outside the government.  TAP also strives to motivate civil society organizations to lobby for improved management of public expenditures and works with partner organizations to achieve positive impacts.

Notable initiatives include the TAP Luncheon Seminar Series, which is hosted twice monthly and focuses on improved governance and strengthened government accountability in developing countries.  TAP also conducts a “Views from the Bank” program that analyses major fiduciary issues within the World Bank’s various regions.  TAP has also hosted an Africa Week, during which it conducted several briefings on the effectiveness of African governance institutions.  Relevant experts for TAP at Brookings include Senior Fellow David de Ferranti and Senior Fellow Charles Griffin.
