Chinese news agency Xinhua reports that a researcher at Stanford University has called for an independent mechanism to monitor carbon offset schemes used by countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of their pledges under the UN climate agreement that went into force in early November.

World Bank Directs Billions Toward Climate Finance

The World Bank has outlined its efforts, as part of its Climate Change Action Plan adopted in April, to direct billions of dollars in development finance toward renewable energy and other projects in poor countries to help achieve government pledges under the UN climate deal that went into force earlier this month.

UN Official Pushes COP22 Action on Rights Reporting

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein has called on governments at the COP22 conference on countering global warming in Marrakesh, Morocco, to integrate the human rights agenda in their climate commitments and provide for reporting on human rights impacts as part of the monitoring mechanism under the UN's Paris climate agreement.

UN Agent Calls for "Equality Bodies" to Combat Racism

The UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, Mutuma Ruteere, has called on governments to develop "national specialized bodies and national action plans" to address racial discrimination and xenophobia in areas of life including "employment, housing, education, the justice system, law enforcement and access to different goods and services."
