Professor Thomas Straubhaar of the University of Hamburg has called for the authority to determine migration and refugee policy to be taken from the EU member countries and placed in EU institutions, in order to permit these institutions to form a common migration policy applicable across the bloc.

The BBC reports that, responding to the European Parliament's adoption of legislation that will, beginning in 2017, eliminate roaming charges for using mobile phones abroad in the EU, critics have expressed concern that phone companies will push along the applicable costs to the consumers in the form of higher general rates.

Committee Calls for Common EU Corporate Tax Base

Recent recommendations from the European Parliament's Special Committee on Tax Rulings call for legislation requiring companies operating in Europe to supply country-by-country reports on their financial data and establishing a compulsory, consolidated EU corporate tax base that would prevent businesses from avoiding taxes in countries in which they operate.

The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights ("FRA") has published a checklist for officials in the EU to use when taking the fingerprints of asylum seekers, as mandated by EU rules, in order to respect fundamental rights, including by avoiding "physical or psychological force" in taking the fingerprints.
