EU Council Approves Financial Disclosure Deal

The European Council has approved an agreement with Liechtenstein and Switzerland requiring the countries to disclose information on private financial accounts to prevent citizens from avoiding payment of taxes by "hiding" funds in these accounts.

EU Refers Poland to Court over Air Pollution

The European Commission has announced that, after opening infringement proceedings against six other EU members for potential violations of the bloc's pollution standards, it is referring Poland to the Court of Justice of the EU for breaching the EU limit on "small particulate matter," which it says is mostly caused by household heating in the country.

UK and Italy: EU Countries Differ on Integration Commitments

In an opinion piece, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni write that the EU should recognize different visions its members have of their future relationship with Brussels, with some countries - like Italy - committed to continued integration, and others - like the UK - committed to a looser relationship.
