The European Court of Human Rights has held that Hungary violated the right to free expression of Members of the Hungarian Parliament by fining them for various protests that disrupted parliamentary sessions because the sanctions procedures used did not offer the MPs a sufficient opportunity to defend themselves.

ECB Bond-Buying Sparks New German Lawsuit

German law professors and business representatives have filed a lawsuit in the German Constitutional Court challenging the authority of the European Central Bank to make extensive purchases of government bonds and to begin buying corporate bonds, arguing that the challenged program risks the funds of German taxpayers at the country's central bank.

UK Plans to Split Courts from ECtHR Jurisprudence

The Telegraph reports that, following the upcoming referendum on EU membership, the British Government is planning a consultation on a Bill of Rights that would provide for the continued jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights ("ECtHR") over cases in the UK but eliminate the requirement that British judges "take into account" ECtHR rulings.

UK Struggles to Deport Convicted Criminals Under EU System

The Daily Mail reports that, of the over 4,000 convicted criminals in British prisons from other EU countries, the UK has only been able to deport approximately two prisoners per month to their home states under a transfer agreement with the EU intended to facilitate such prisoner transfers.
