A recent consultation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, of representatives from African governments, the African Union (AU), businesses, academia, and global nongovernmental organizations has led to the drafting of an AU Policy on Business and Human Rights (BHR) that will seek to implement the BHR and environmental agendas across the continent.

UN Group Pushes G20 to Act on BHR in Supply Chains

The UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights (BHR) published an open letter calling on Group of 20 (G20) leaders to address human rights impacts of companies and state-owned enterprises in their complex global supply chains in line with the UN Guiding Principles on BHR and the "sustainable development" agenda.

Bloomberg reports that a preliminary statement for a recent meeting of Group of 20 (G20) finance ministers removed references to government financial support for achieving the greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals set out in the UN's 2015 Paris deal in favor of private funding through multilateral development banks to reach the targets.

Australian Regulator Signals Financial Climate Testing

In testimony before an Australian Senate Committee, Executive Board member of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority Geoff Summerhayes indicated his agency may require financial institutions to test climate change scenarios to ensure their investments can withstand the impacts of the phenomenon, and to disclose the results of this testing.
