UN Human Rights Experts Urge EU to Adopt Financial Transactions Tax

A group of United Nations independent experts, led by Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Magdalena Sepulveda, have called on the European Union to take the lead in promoting the adoption of a global financial transaction tax that would offset the costs of the current economic crisis and protect basic human rights.

UN Secretary-General and High Commissioner for Human Rights Report to HRC on Right to Development

 At the present 15th session of the UN Human Rights Council the UN Secretary-General and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights submitted their joint report on the mainstreaming of the right to development among the UN agencies, on activities undertaken to strengthen the global partnership for development, and on efforts undertaken at the national, regional, and international levels in the promotion and realization of the right to development.  A copy of the Report is available here.
