UN Human Rights Experts Urge EU to Adopt Financial Transactions Tax

A group of United Nations independent experts, led by Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Magdalena Sepulveda, have called on the European Union to take the lead in promoting the adoption of a global financial transaction tax that would offset the costs of the current economic crisis and protect basic human rights.

Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination considers Iran's report on implementation of Convention provisions.

 In response to Iran's report on its implementation of the provisions of the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination, the Committee said that it "was extremely impressed by the detailed answers provided in response to the various questions Experts had asked. [Moreover, it] was impressive what Iran had been doing in terms of economic and social development and the status of women."
