Preliminary Draft Report on Social Responsibility and Health
The International Bioethics Committee (IBC) seeks to ensure respect for human dignity by studying the progress of and exposing issues surrounding the life sciences. Its Working Group on Social Responsibility and Health published a "Preliminary Draft Report on Social Responsibility and Health" in 2007. This report highlights the widening health gaps that have developed between countries and people groups, despite international health commitments. In defining health policy as not only medical care, but also the social, economic and cultural conditions necessary to ensure good health, the report stresses that health is everyone's responsibility, and not just the responsibility of states or governments.
