Declaration on the Right to Development

HUMAN RIGHTS

by United Nations

The Declaration on the Right to Development elaborates on the provisions contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by highlighting the conditions necessary in order for everyone to enjoy the rights and freedoms outlined in the Declaration. Specifically, the Declaration states that "the right to development is an inalienable human right by virtue of which every human person and all peoples are entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realized." The Declaration goes on to highlight the national and international actions that States parties must take in order to ensure that their citizens are fully enjoying their right to development.
