Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women

HUMAN RIGHTS

by Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women

The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women is the body that monitors States parties' compliance with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.  Established in 1982, it is composed of 23 experts on women's issues from around the world.  At its meetings held twice annually, the Committee reviews national reports submitted by the States parties, which cover national actions taken to implement the provisions of the Convention.  The Committee then makes recommendations on any issue affecting women to which it believes the States parties should devote more attention.
